Chair: Caroline Emily Rae, Newcastle University

Jack Weatherston, Northumbria University – The Intrusion of Climate in Alejandro González Iñárritu’s The Revenant

Dr Lisa Garforth, Newcastle University – Nature is Dead: Long Live the Green Utopia?

This panel considers the possibility of persistence in a dramatically climate-changed future, and the strategies by which established narratives respond and adapt to the intruding influence of environmental crisis. The papers in this panel explore the challenge of imagining ecological and generic futures in the context of the Anthropocene, considering the extent to which collapsing ecologies limit environmental imaginaries and insist upon new interpretative approaches fiction and film.
